So good news...my mom and I graduated! We are officially a seeing eye team. But what I really want to tell you about is New York City.
I've been to NYC before. My trainer, Joan, took me there. But it's been a while. Oh my word. I walked up the stairs from the subway station and thought to myself, "OMG I have arrived! Tell the world I'm here!" It was the most amazing feeling ever!
You know I love obstacle courses. I see NYC as the most gigantic agility course ever made!
I did all my usual stuff of weaving around people and obstacles. I also showed mom where I saw curbs. But I got to work extra hard. There are so many people in NYC that sometimes I can't get right up to the curb. I look left, right, left, right...all around to find openings between people. My favorite part is when people see this and move to give me an opening. Some of my other dog friends might see that as cheating, but I think they must think I'm super awesome and want to make way for me. I'm pretty cute, after all. So I don't mind if you move out of the way when my mom and I are coming. I think she feels a little weird at times when this happens though, because she wants to navigate outside like everyone else. So let's just make a promise to not be dramatic about letting us through. Just kindly step aside and make way for the fabulous Renee...and her person, of course.
I have only been with my mom for a little while, but I can already tell she loves shopping. She took me into the biggest store I've ever seen! It's called Macy's. I had a lot of fun guiding her there, because there were lots of places where there would be a random set of three stairs all throughout the store. My mom says that's a terrible design. I think it's cool, because it gives me a job to do!
The Big Apple is my mom's most favorite place ever, she has told me. I think I know why. There are so many people walking! Unlike the other places where most people drive, a lot of people walked on the sidewalks with us in NYC. I think my mom likes the company. I like having more obstacles! My mom did tell me she appreciated my fast pace that I always use. She appreciated it when passing a particular man. I think all people are my friends, but this guy was being kind of strange to my mom. For once she liked that I zoom by everything as fast as possible! I'm not positive why she wasn't as appreciative of my speed while racing through Macy's. Man, this is a lot for a young dog to process. I better go. I'm getting sleepy just thinking about our fabulous trip to the city that never sleeps!
Happily and fabulously yours,
Renee the Seeing Eye Dog
